The Hampton by Hilton at São Paulo’s Guarulhos Airport is the second Hilton hotel your Guide has stayed in at an airport and I’m sensing a trend. I had the chance to stay in two rooms at the Hampton, but I only stayed one night. We’ll get into that below. The breakfast buffet was fine. The WIFI speeds were much slower than the Marriott, though. This still might be a practical option for you if you have an early departure or late arrival at GRU. Check out the details below.
There are Booking.com affiliate links on this page (for the Marriott and the Hilton) because, Booking does have deals sometimes and the Hilton might make sense if there was a good discount on.
How is the Sao Paulo Airport Hampton for digital nomads?
The rooms in this hotel are definitely spacious enough for a comfortable stay, and the desk is a good size if you need to get some work done. Plus, if you like to have your own food or drinks with you, the fridge was empty. You can store your own food. The hotel was refurbished recently–the showers are great. However, there is a major catch if you need to do video calls: When I stayed there, the WIFI was barely over double digits. 8.98 Mb/s down, and 10.22 Mb/2 up. I also checked the WIFI in the restaurant/lobby area and there it was just over 10 Mb/s, down and up.
By comparison, the Marriott that’s close to GRU, was giving me triple digit WIFI speeds.
How is the coffee in the room? Well, the second room I got put in was an upgraded room for Hilton Honors members and it had a Nespresso machine. I don’t like the garbage those create, but it raises the question of: Why was I moved to a different room? The first room I was in had a very dirty bed. It was probably in part just the super white bed linens they’ve opted for. But there were enough stains on multiple sheets that I went back to the front desk and showed them some photos. That’s the first time I’ve switched a room. They were very accommodating and the second room was totally fine.
How is the breakfast?
The restaurant at the Hampton does a buffet service at breakfast and then at dinner. The breakfast was out at 5am and dinner was from 6pm.
For breakfast, there were local standards like the fluffy cheesy pao de queijo, along with some airport hotel buffet classics, like congealed instant eggs.
If you’re wondering whether food options are open at GRU early in the morning: Yes. At least at Terminal 3, a surprising number of restaurants and bars were open at 5:30 am, before and after security.
